The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through its Field Office (FO) in Davao Region, is inviting all film enthusiasts and amateur filmmakers to join the DSWD FO XI Film Festival that carries the theme, ‘DSWD: May Malasakit.’

“This short film-making competition primarily aims to promote the different programs and services that the DSWD provides. At the same time, this is in support of young film enthusiasts and amateur filmmakers and their efforts to improve their craft and showcase their talent and creativity through the creation of short films,” DSWD FO XI Regional Director Mercedita P. Jabagat said.

The contest is open to all amateur and professional videographers or filmmakers in the region. Those interested to join should submit a filled-out entry form available at the Social Marketing Unit of DSWD Regional Office in Davao City. Entry forms will be accepted until May 31, 2017, 5:00 PM.

Film enthusiasts joining the competition should focus on the different programs and services of the DSWD, such as the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Sustainable Livelihood Program, and Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services, among others. The participants may also feature the different centers and institutions of the Department, including the Reception and Study Center for Children, Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth, Home for the Aged, and the Home for Girls and Women.

An orientation on the DSWD programs  and services will be conducted on June 6 at the field office. Following the orientation, the entrants will be assigned a specific program as the subject of their video entry by draw lots. Video entries must be 2-3 minutes long. The deadline for the submission of entries will be on July 3.

“The grand winner of the film festival will receive P40,000, while the second runner-up gets P25,000. The third placer will bring home P15,000, while four consolation winners will each receive P5,000,” Dir. Jabagat said.

“For the initial round of the video contest, the entries will be judged based on relevance to the theme (40%), technicalities (30%), and aesthetics (30%). For the final round, there will be an added criteria for the most number of shares, likes, and views on social media,” the Director said.
